Professor Kornweibel is a historian in the Africana Studies Department at San Diego State University, an expert on the FBI and black militants, and the author of Seeing Red (1998), an exposé of the federal government’s campaign to suppress black militancy during the post-World War I “Red Scare.” His forthcoming book, also the product of his search for relevant FBI files under the Freedom of Information Act, documents the federal government’s efforts to curtail black dissent during the First World War.
